Do hidden layers load?

When my field guys open the map in Field Maps, does it load data that is in hidden layers? Or does it only load data that is on the visible layers?

My understanding of this is, the data will load regardless if it is hidden and therefore it is sitting ready to be called on when needed or queried. The data will just remain invisible until it is turned on.
