Reshape fails: Error incorrect

Question

Hello!

I am using ArcGIS Pro 3.0.2 and have been having troubles with using the reshape tool.

I try to reshape a polygon but get the following error: "New geometry must intersect the feature in at least two places." However, the geometry does! See the screenshot:

This behavior isn't consistent; sometimes it doesn't reshape and sometimes it does. I have tried:
1. Repairing geometry

2. Allow reshaping with and without a selection

3. Drawing the reshape line starting in different locations (thinking maybe the reshape has to follow the same direction the original polygon was drawn in)

4. Reshaping the same area except making it larger rather than smaller

Nothing works. I have to split a feature and then delete the portion I don't want. Any ideas on what might be happening?

* Only a single feature. Also not multipart.
* Yes. However, the behavior is seen whether:* The "Allow reshaping without a selection" is checked and a feature is selected
* The "Allow reshaping without a selection" is not checked and a feature is selected
* The "Allow reshaping without a selection" is not checked and a feature is not selected

* It is. Layer is in NAD 1983 HARN Michigan GeoRef (Meters) and the Map is in NAD 1983 StatePlane Michigan Central FIPS (Intl Feet). I did not create this project so I don't know if there's a reason these systems were chosen.
* No curves involved. This behavior occurs when I use the line or streaming tool within reshape. The streaming tool is using a 5 ft stream tolerance and the smoothing option is checked.
* Data are stored locally.

I delved deeper into point 3. I changed the map coordinate system so it was the same as the layer and the reshape worked. I immediately changed back so it would project on the fly and the reshape didn't work. Might be the culprit right there!

* What is selected in the selection tree within the Reshape tool? Only a single feature?
* Is 'Allow reshaping without a selection' checked on at the bottom of the tool?  I see you answered that one 🙂
* Is the layer being projected on the fly within the map?
* Are there curves involved? What kind?
* Where is the data hosted / stored?

These are things that Esri Technical Support can help answer, and log a bug, if necessary.
