Am I missing something?
Assign rule Pointmarker_To_FootprintShape
There is no shapes created from the "Get map data" function to apply any rules to.
In the File -> Get Map Data window, check the "Download polygons" box to get building footprints.
Of course I check those boxes. But after it gets the data there are no residential footprints. In later versions it did get all the residential house footprints.
What geographical area are you trying to download? Can you post a screenshot of your settings in the Get Map Data window?
North west corner in Wayne County Michigan, USA. I have all the settings in the get map data checked.
I was hoping to see what your settings were for Bounds, so that I could try to reproduce it. I just tried to download some footprints in the NW corner of Wayne County, Michigan, and I was able to get some footprints. Not all buildings seem to have footprints though. You can see what data is available on OpenStreetMap.

Yes, there are a lot of buildings with no footprints and no houses at all.
Open street map map shows house footprints but they’re not grabbed.
Check SEMCOG's website. They have implemented an Open Data portal with tons of GIS Data include building footprints.
Can you post a screenshot of your Get Map Data window so that I can see what bounds and coordinate system you are trying? Could you also point out where a footprint is missing?
Here is my map data window. All the residential foot prints in this area are not getting captured.

How do I download an OSM file form SEMCOG?
When I try those exact bounds, I am able to get building footprints (shown in blue), and they match the available data on OpenStreetMap, so I don't think I'm missing any footprints. Do you not get the footprints in blue below?

In your images you are not getting the residential home shapes. That site SEMCOG is nfreaking awesome. I got the shape files for residential homes from there.
Get Map Data downloads what is available in OpenStreetMap. If it doesn't exist in OpenStreetMap, then it won't exist through Get Map Data either. These footprints don't exist in OpenStreetMap as indicated by the second image I posted.
SEMCOG is great. Honestly some of the best metadata I've seen. I'm glad I could share it. Is it Common knowledge...I'm not sure. My brother's architecture firm in Detroit wasn't aware of it and until I showed them the light. More and more communities/counties/mpos are implementing Esri's Open Data Portal. I usually check there first and use OSM/Get Map Data as a backup.

The SEMCOG is only south east Michigan. Is there a site like this for other areas in the USA?
You just have to search wherever your project is. I typically look first for the county with a search term like this - Cook County Open Data Portal GIS and then I'll try the MPO (i.e. CEMCOG) and finally the city.
