Problem with getting an SOE to work ( Dynamic Segmentation Utility SOE Rest )

I'm trying to get this SOE working on my server.

I've managed to load it into the Site->Extentions without any problems. But when we go to publish a service with the capability enabled, we get the following error:

service failed to start
Secured.road_routes.MapServer:
SERVER2.myurl
ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

What class could it be looking for and what do I need to do to make it work? I've looked through the documenation and can't see anything that sticks out.

Hi all

We faced the same problem with this error message:
service failed to start
...
...
ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

The problem was, that we didn't install the ".NET extension support".

Now it works and the map service with the extension can startup.

Thanks guys. I'll be getting into this again shortly (probably after I've got the 10.3 server upgrade figured) so I'll give it a whirl..

The .NET Extension Support mentioned above was the solution for me as well. I did not install the .NET Extension Support during the ArcGIS for Server install. To install go to control panel, programs and features, double click on the ArcGIS for Server, choose modify and install .NET Extension Support. I also installed older versions of .NET Frame Works (versions 2, 3, 3.5 and 4).

Problem: Could not publish a map services with SOE extension capabilities enabled.

Errors I received:

Packaging succeeded, but publishing failed. ERROR 001369: Failed to created service
Can not open file C:\..., The system cannot find the path specified. Probable cause: The file is inaccessible to Server.
ClassFactory Cannot supply requested class

I had previously created an SOE which was working and being used by a map service. I wanted to develop another SOE, so I simply copied the directory where my SOE existed, changed the project name, assembly name, class name, guid, and that kind of thing. I was able to start the extension ok, but as has been the case with other folks on this thread, I received the error about the class factory. What I found is that if I stopped the old service that was using the old SOE and then removed the old SOE, that my new one could be loaded and that the new service could start. That's not much of a solution, but it makes me think that maybe this has something to do with the key (.snk file) in the SOE project. Theory being that the Visual Studio template used to create a new SOE gives you a new key, but by copying the old directory, you are trying to reuse the same key. Are others that are experiencing this problem copying directories instead of going through the Visual Studio template?

I am currently experiencing this "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class" issue on my ArcGIS installation.

I am unable to load *ANY* soe's on my development workstation because of this, including the sample one listed in previous post. I can however compile and package them from the affected machine and they run just fine on other ArcGIS Server instances.

I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling .NET Framework 3.5 + 4.5. I did a complete removal of all ArcGIS software and reinstall of ArcGIS Server, making sure to include the .NET Extensibility Support. I even pulled other installations of JAVA and investigated my environment variables just to make certain there couldn't be some kind of conflicts there.

I've also checked to make sure projects are compiling for AnyPlatform.

The really frustrating thing is that this worked fine last time I was working on my project a few weeks ago, I can't say what might have changed.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my solution to the same problem:

I realized I had been compiling in x86 mode. When I switched to "Any CPU" the problem was fixed.

In my case, it was the .NET extention support. It now loads, creates the rest capability and doens't throw an error! Thanks everyone!

My "class factory" error was due to lacking .net 4.5 which was used to build the SOE...

I have encountered the "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class" error several times over the course of upgrading my 10.0 SOEs to 10.1.

In spite of my best efforts to manually update my existing project files with the new 10.1 build targets and other elements, I ultimately had to just bite the proverbial bullet and create brand new SOE projects using the 10.1 template and port over all my code.

For one particular SOE I actually had to recreate its project from the 10.1 template (SOAP) a second time because of the "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class" error thrown during service startup.

In control panel -> Porgram and features -> select arcgis 10.1 sp1 for server -> click uninstall/change -> Modify -> Next and then see

Have you tried with another soe (for example those in sample esri) ? I haven't this error and I don't know how replicate it in my system.

Ok. So we've updated .net and everything else we can think of. We also installed 10.1 desktop. We're still getting the same error. Any more suggestions?

Also, I can can get a look at the source, I might be able to figure out what I'm missing. Is that a possibility?

That one didn't work for me either. I'm pretty sure the issue is somewhere in the server setup (since we've got such a bare bones setup), but I have no idea where to look.

I've got our server people updating the .NET and few other bits and bobs. I'll let you know how it goes after that.

I have problem understand this problem because I haven't it. Can you install this soe esri that use similar library arcobjects so I can compare with it if it runs to you?

I don't have a separate project. I'm trying to get it working with the sample data first. And by "working", I mean "get the capability to turn on".

here is the rest URL for the sample data I'm using

When I go to turn on the "Dynamic Segmentation Utility" Capability in ArcGIS Server Manager, I get :

I've updated the SOE (deleted and reloaded) and republished the service in the root folder (we put everything in folders, so I thought it was worth trying) with no luck. Still have the same error.

Do I need to restart something in ArcServer for the changes to take effect properly? Are there some rules on how we need to publish the services? Was there an update to the sample data that I need to give to the person helping me publish the services?

I do appreciate the help. Just wish it would work! 🙂

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I've been out of town and then terribly ill...

We published a service with the test data and get the same error.

It LOOKS like I've got Service Pack 1 (the Patch Finder tool seems to say I have it and my build number says 10.1.1 (build 3143)).

This server ONLY has the ArcGIS server, Web Adaptor and IIS on it. NO desktop arc gis, NO SQL, NO anything else. It was a fresh build a few weeks back, so there's very little extra on it and it's only ever had 10.1 on it.

So, here's my guesses as to what I'm missing (things that are probably installed by default when other products are installed) and maybe you can confirm or otherwise my suspicions and point me in the right direction.
1) I'm missing a .NET update of some sort.
2) I'm missing a c++ redistributable of some sort.
3) I'm missing some other plug in or supporting dll of some sort.

have you installed sp1 on ags? I have installed on win 2012 and on win7 with ags 10.1 sp1 and I haven't problem.

OS is windows server 2008 R2 enterprise on both. No service packs on either... same data for the service.

KevinBellSLC, have you more details in log event viewer windows, arcgis server log? What's the difference from two server (OS, sp arcgis server, same data for service) ?

I have the same issue. Funny thing is that the SOE works great on another server that I think is set up identically... hmmm...
