Deprecation: Map Viewer Classic Deprecation
would be a good place to start to prepare
You still have the option to open in Map Viewer Classic if you open the web map item and click the down arrow on the "Open in Map Viewer" button.
There is some functionality that is only available in Map Viewer Classic still.
@BruceRose
Map Viewer Classic is a deprecated product and will be retired in Q1 of 2026 (see document). I would like to know if there is any specific functionality that you rely on Map Viewer Classic for.
I’d be happy to answer any questions to help transition to Map Viewer.
Would be happy to learn about any workflows that you currently use Map Viewer Classic for.
Creating feature templates is not available anywhere other than Map Viewer Classic. I can manage templates in Field Map Designer, but not create them.

This will soon be available in Map Viewer, in the upcoming February release!
FYI, Even with this new Map Viewer update, there is not feature parity. The new template editor does not offer the ability to create a template. I can only duplicate. I recently had a situation where a Feature Service somehow broke and all the templates disappeared. Duplication was thus not an option and I had to revert to Map Viewer Classic to create templates from scratch.
I contacted tech support at the time but the feature service was in production and needed to be fixed immediately so tech support were not able to help in anyway.
Glad to hear that the feature service is up and running now, and thanks for sharing your feedback. With Templates now being available with the February release, a way to Create templates is definitely on our future roadmap.
I don't mean to be rude, but I want to express my dissatisfaction with this response. In my initial reply I explained a feature that wasn't available. You didn't comprehend what I was saying and told me it was in the February release. Now you've said it's in the future roadmap. But I'm not actually sure if you've achieved comprehension of my request as your response doesn't acknowledge the mistake or the previous interaction.
Further, could you please clarify whether feature parity will be achieved prior to deprecation. The roadmaps so far show that it will not.
It feels like gas lighting. This response. The roadmap/deprecation situation. ESRI keep saying the missing features are coming, then they put them in another app rather than the replacement for the deprecated app. Or they just don't come at all.
@BlakeMorrison, In the Q2 2025 release of ArcGIS Online, we have addressed the bug that prevented the Manage option from displaying for editable feature layers in a Web map, when opened in Map Viewer Classic.
Please feel free to post any questions you may have!
