This looks to be BUG-000152404. We are going to look at how we can relax the checks in the Asset Package tools so you can get the data exported to an asset package.

Can you send me the XML? A Schema only version is fine. I am not sure what is going on. You do not need to disable topo. Actually when you transfer a UN via XML, the internal tables are not transferred, so it is being transferred disabled.

Is there anything in your target GDB or is it a fresh/clean copy of SQL?

Hello everyone,

I am having difficulty transferring the UN contents from an Enterprise GDB to our own SQL Server.
The Dataser copy and paste special into a new empty FGDB ends with this error

Import of an XML Document into FGDB makes this error,

and also into a SQL Server GDB

I'tried to Export Asset Package but...

"unoner" is a db user with sysadmin role...

Where I'm wrong?

Any suggestion is very appreciated. I'm using ArcGIS Pro 2.9.7.

I don't catch exactly the advatage to use a j-j association instead of an e-j one.

The connectors and connector groups allow you to move the association a fiber to another port on the equipment by changing the JJ associations. You could skip these and have the fiber connect with J-E association to the port if you wanted too.

Hi everyone,
I need to have more information about connectors and connector group. What are the benefits of using connectors and connector group versus establishing connectivity rules directly between ports and strands by configuring the ports as subnetwork controllers (instead of the connector)?

There are cases where connectors exist and are used (es. with patch panel ports) and cases where connectors do not exist (es. in fusion splices).

What is the best way to model them?

It is not documented anywhere. It is a data migration moving from one model to another. If you do not need any of the new functions, there is no reason to move to the new model.

Sure, you can do that if you want.

Loc is just an attribute. Think when I build the base of these slides a long time ago, we had one field, but now there are multiple fields for location info.

Ok, now it's clear that Apply Asset Package isn't the right tool.

But, isn't clear for me this step "and map the classes and the C_ tables to the new Asset Package".

Hi Mike, scenario in your image is for 2 independent phisical switches.

My question is about 1 logical switch composed by different phisical switches connected togheter so that it behaves as a unique switch.

Interesting "Loc" used for Rack, what field you used for "Loc"? I don't have one...

There are a few options, but you could have many switches in the same chassis, like this:

You will need to create a new utility network and then port your data into that new UN. You cannot apply the new asset package on top of your utility network. I suggest using Data Loading Tools. It is probably best to export your UN to an Asset Package and map the classes and the C_ tables to the new Asset Package.

Hello.

I've discovered a new release of Communications Utility Network Foundation, that support "Distribution Cable Components" as controller of Cable Tier Subnetwork.

In my previous Asset Package, "Distribution Cable Components" isn't supported, only "Regional Cable Components".

Now I want to adopt new Asset Package but not lost data of my current FGDB.

What's best way to do so?

I tried to run "Apply Asset Package" with this parameters:

-Asset Package is the new from Fundation.

-Input Utility Network is my current FGDB

This is resulting error:

Hello everyone,

we are implementing Communications Utility Network Foundation for an Airport.

We must model one logical switch, composed by 4 phisical switch (each with 4 ports in and 48 out) connected together.

I ask for best practice between:

Scenario of one Switch 16 x 192: what happened if I add a fifth phisical switch? I must run Attribute Rule also on update?
Scenario of four Switch 4 x 48: how can they connected togheter?

In your opinion what is the recommended scenario?

Hi Omar,

The reason why we will see this in Utility Network and the data model is that the current cable is being contained and also containing other objects.

So here are a few steps for us to ensure we clean up the additional features and association before we can execute the deletion. These are the Out-Of-The-Box steps to remove these features, so we are looking for future enhancements or partner solutions to make this more friendly.

Select all the structure lines
Right-click on the selected structure lines in the "Contained within" tree view
Remove associations with the structure lines
Select all the strands and connector groups (they will show up at the bottom of the attribute pane for later deletion process)
Right-click on the selected Strands or Connector group in the "Contains" tree view
Click on Remove Associations, for both strands and connector groups
Now on the bottom, the selected strands and connector groups are still persisting on the selection pane, so please go ahead and delete them first (this way, you have eliminated those orphan features in the database)
Now you are ready to delete that cable.

Hopefully, these tips are helpful.

I noticed in the new 2021-04 v1.1 early preview release, when creating a fiber cable between 2 splice enclosures that whenever I try to delete a created cable the following error message is shown

Is there something that I am missing here? I tried removing associated non spatial objects manually on both end until I reached a similar error on the Connector Group / Fiber communication junction objects at both ends.

Hi Vladimir,

Reporting is a great and important feature that you have mentioned. Even though it is not on the near-term roadmap, I will keep a note for it to see what we can do.

In the meantime, users are encouraged to build their own reports and leverage other Esri tools such as ArcGIS Dashboards to show the executive view of the network element summary.

Hi Derek,

As we are having more conversation on this topic. I would like to clarify and correct myself on the "Error Layers". The Error layers are not a group layer, but a special composite layer.

To add them to your map, please follow the step here:

Go to the "Service Territory" Layer, and select "Add Error Layers".

Hi Derek,

I am excited that you have started exploring the updates in the model, and we have noticed the missing link you mentioned in your post, we have logged the issue and will provide a future fix on the error.

And you are correct about those three layers that are pointed towards three feature class in the database as below. The group "Error Layers" is more of a Wrap around those three layers, so no dedicated feature group towards it.

You can simply grab those four single Error Layers and form a group layer again.

Again, sorry about the inconvenience and I really appreciate your post and findings, it only gets better from here.

In the new 2021-04 v1.1 early preview release, in the "Communications Network Editor" map (in the Comm. Data Management project) there's a layer called "Error Layers" with a broken data source link. I think I know how to fix a broken data source but this doesn't appear to be the usual type ...

I'd like to fix it but I don't really know how ... This "Error Layers" seems like a group layer, but it's got this data source ..

Any suggestions?

You are right.

In this second Early Preview, we do have basic physical network elements (as you said it is a network inventory) for Coax and Copper networks such as fiber-to-coax/copper converter ports; coax/copper cables, etc. Speaking of the power and signal calculation during the design and planning phase would be what we categorize as the Logical Network Elements.

We are developing this data model to serve as a framework for our users and partners, who will take this foundation and customize it with additional logical components. For right now, we don't have a near plan to add those components yet, but we will keep our user community updated.

Includes a File Geodatabase with the Utility Network and the maps referencing this database. This reduces the time for users who want to test out the utility network and how it supports their industry.
Task to guide editing and tracing.
Task to walk through the deployment of the solution, both to Enterprise and Single User. Not only do these task provide the steps, they are able to open the proper tool or pane and speeds up the process to deploy the solution.
Geoprocessing tool to change map data sources. This is a amazing tool that leverages ArcPy Mapping and the CIM tools in it to switch maps between FGDB, SDE, and services.

Does the coax network foundation which is in development include interactive design capabilities? I mean, when I design a coax network can I do on-the-fly calculations on a set of frequencies (taking the loss / gain of the cables, line-equilizers, amplifiers, .... into account)? Or is it "just" an inventory?

Stephanie Finamore‌ ArcGIS Utility Network Management only works with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro. This new Comms Network Foundation data model was built on the utility network. A previous communications data model exists for the geometric network, which is ArcMap friendly, but all new development is going into this new model and the utility network.

Hey Joe Kilzer‌, the latest (early preview) is attached as a Zip file to this thread. If contains a fGDB utility network which you can export to asset package. Also, at Pro 2.5 you can work with the utility network in a geodatabase for testing.

Are there any details about copper vs fiber with this new network? Although new copper construction is almost nonexistent for us, we do have a substantial amount of both copper and fiber in our network. We model copper the best we can with the current fiber model, but there are limitations. Will the new data model be fiber-centric or will it be more flexible?

With the release of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 and ArcGIS Pro 2.1, the Utility Network Management extension is offered as a comprehensive solution to managing utility and telecom networks (telecom model not available with first release).
