Add QR Code functionality to ArcGIS Explorer app

Previously, ESRI app had the ability to be opened through a QR Code reader.  Now that it sounds like the ESRI app will fall to the wayside, are there any plans to extend this functionality to the ArcGIS Explorer app? We have set up some trailhead maps to various locations around our county that also contain QR codes, and if the new app doesn't contain this funtionality then the QR codes will only open ArcGIS online maps in a browser, which greatly reduces performance.
