When using "Calculate field" from a table-column (field), the Calculate field dialog (GP) does not take the field name from the table (clicking the function calculate field).
That is not my experience, Calculate field behaves as expected for me. May be you are look at the alias?
Tested it again with a new FGDB and looks like specific using this old one...
