Batch processing of metadata?

Hi,

I've got many shapefiles that I've created via a model.  I've been trying to find a way to incorporate the creation of the metadata into the model itself, and haven't found anything yet.  Surely someone else has tried to do this?

Barring that, can anyone suggest a good way to do bulk creation of metadata?  At this point my plan is to create one good metadata file, and then do "find and replace" many times in a good text editor.  I'll do it, but it doesn't seem very efficient.

This is a problem that has troubled me for a long time. I still create a single metadata file and edit the xml files using notepad ++ and I find it quite tedious and inefficient. The trouble is when you are produced the metadata files for a 1000+ data sets.
