layer symbology error when publishing maps

Question

I receive "Layer contains a symbol type that does not match the referenced data source's geometry type" error when publishing a map service. Does anyone know what causes this error? I appreciate any help.  Thanks

Hi Mehrshad,

This usually occurs when a layer's data source was broken at some point and you repaired the data source for the layer, but picked the incorrect feature class with another geometry type.
