Legend Symbology problems within Custom Print Layout

Question

Here's the deal, I have created a Flex Utlity Map that uses the Print Widget which prints to our standardized company map. Everything is good to go except the legend, When I print to the default PDF format the symbolgy becomes fuzzy and will not show the entire acronym for the Abandonded Force Main (AFM: which is highlighted on the attachment).

I have tried manipulating the symbology within ArcMap  then publishing withou any success.

Has anyone encountered this issue and found a solution? Thanks for your help.

I was encountered a similar problem. Following the steps from 40538 - The PrintingTools service produces garbled or pixelated legend patches in PDF output did it for us.

I get the same problem with using a non-custom print layout . . .
