As mentioned before, I can see my ArcGIS Online maps that I have created; however, I cannot see any of my data when opening them. Most of my maps are a feature service right now. Does ArcGIS Explorer handle feature services yet?

I have an inquiry regarding the add GIS service on ArcGIS Explorer. How do I connect my citrix server database to be utilized in ArcGIS Explorer? I have tried using this URL (http://citrix/Citrix/XenApp/site/default.aspx?NFuse_CurrentFolder=%5cDesktop%20GIS), but it fails to connect. I pray to the GIS gods that I can eventually link the server to this awesome piece of software.

ArcGIS Explorer connects to ArcGIS, ArcIMS, WMS and GeoRss services. I am not sure what you are referring to in regards to "citrix server database"

ArcGIS Explorer can be run within a citrix environment, but I am not familiar with connecting to a citrix server.

Hello:

Is there an estimate for a release date (week, month, season...) for ArcGIS Explorer Desktop 2012 final?

Will there be another beta release? I cannot find any way to get "About..." info in the UI, to get the build number. I'm probably missing it. The executable I have says 2.0.0.1995. Is there a more recent beta?

And, for a follow up, is there any official or semi-official statement about this product's future development, in light of the upcoming (at some point) release of the ArcGIS "Viewer" for Windows?

We have beem implementing some User Conference bug fix and enhancement requests that have caused us to miss our intended August release window. We have also been looking ArcGIS 10.1 service pack 1 work and moving applicable enhancements into ArcGIS Explorer as well. One of the significant items is support for Publick Key Infrastructure. That work is still on-going and a few weeks from being complete.

We are not planning another beta release. The next release will be the official ArcGIS Explorer 2012 release.

The ArcGIS Viewer for windows is a Multi-screen (window) dashboard mapping application. It is a compliment to the ArcGIS system, not a replacement for ArcGIS Explorer.

Longer term ArcGIS Explorer continues to be developed. Post ArcGIS Explorer 2012 we will be working to address issues with map display and performance by using a new 2D and 3D display architecture. The first of many releases on the new display will be in 2013.

ArcGIS Explorer 2012 and prior will not support feature services. Feature services will be supported in the 2013 releases.

I have 2 issues to report

1) Test result : ArcGIS explorer crashes as soon as I change locators under Manage locators

Steps

Open ArcGIS explorer from Start > programs
click on ArcGIS explorer button
Now Select ArcGIS explorer options
Select resources
click on locators button
Now I have added my custom locator file. Click on Add
The file that I have added is displayed in the list of locator files
Now when I select the new locator and click on activate arcexplorer crashes

2) Test Results: Validate services does not recognize geocoding and network service

Steps

Goto Start>programs> ArcGIS explorer> Application configuration manager
Click on Modify
Select custom resources
On the right panel scroll downa dn select Choose services under custom services
I specified our internally created geocoding and routing service in URL
When I click validate services I see a red mark

Even though these services are available somehow arcGIS explorer is not validating it. How do i configure any webservices that are develop by our organization?

Esri is phasing out the complimentary use of Bing Maps in its ArcGIS products. The final version of ArcGIS Explorer 2012 as well as other Esri products will be "Bing Ready", which will allow you to input a Bing Maps key that you obtain directly from Microsoft. After you input the key you will be able to use Bing maps as you did previously.

No Bing Maps in its ArcGIS? Sounds like a bad mistake, unless then plan to replace it with Google Maps.

Beta will not install on Windows 8, and that OS is going to be a reality soon. I find it somewhat funny because the older 1750 build will install just fine on Win8.

The ArcGIS Explorer 2012 final release setup will install on Windows 8. The beta installer did not have the logic for Windows 8.

A workaround for installing and using ArcGIS Explorer 2012 beta on windows 8.

When you run the setup the install files are placed in your %tmp%\ArcGISExporer_build2012Beta folder. In this folder you will see two Windows Installer Package executables. PerUser (non admin install) and AllUsers. You can run either of these to install ArcGIS Explorer on your Windows 8 computer.

I keep running into problems when using the software w/biggish shapefiles. Opening attribute table is one and running an attribute query to make a label is another - the entire table gets pulled into memory it seems 3 GB and kaplooey! AGX freezes or dies.

Generally slow and unpredictable drawing from shapefiles and from .lyr files referencing shapefiles. Much better when referencing .lpk, but that means we need to lpk hundreds of shapefiles. Sometimes freezes.

Measure Tool really needs to have a way to put the lat and long on one line, without "Latitude" and "Longitude"

Over and over again, we copy and paste coordinates from one app to another and we cannot do this in AGX (or ArcMap) without fixing things up - in ArcMap, pasting requires putting the numbers in one and a time in Go To XY. In AGX, pasting is fine, but getting the coordinates out via the Measure tool meanings having the pull them out of text that looks like:

Latitude: 34.5
Longtidue: -117.6

Is there another tool, setting, or add-in that can avoid this!

It is possible to add related record look up in the API (someone asked and was told to write their own, with the API call suggested), but it would be awesome to have this functionality in the gallery ready to go.

Jpg image files geo referenced in Google Earth, saved as KML files, then brought in to 2012 beta don't display. They displayed fine before 2012 and after uninstalling 2012 and reinstalling 1750.

If yes, why not use the newer and more efficient .Net Framework 4.0 ?

Hi,

A couple of things I have noted.

The application crashes when you drag your mouse over the attributes table (when accessing file geodatabases).
The 'Find' tool still doesnt show up address results for Australia.

Given the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service, why has this not been incorporated into the product?

Tries a clean installation of the beta on a Windows-7 6b bit OS and failed.
After overwriting some files, the installation stalls with a "runtime error"
Any ideas?

Hi guys,

I�??ve been recently testing ArcExplorer (build 1750 & 2012 Beta) and was hoping other people have seen similar behaviour with their testing and if anyone from ESRI are in a position to say these will be fixed in the release version. To give a little background as to my map setup, I�??ve created 1 layer package from ArcGIS Desktop that contains 330 feature layers under various group layers. I�??ve projected all my data into a single projection in order to improve performance. Forgive me if any of these points have been discussed in some detail in other posts.

Here is what I�??ve seen;

1. Transparency:
a. Layer transparencies that are active when viewed in ArcMap are not applied in ArcExplorer, why is this?
b. However, when a query is applied to a dataset the resulting layer which gets added to the top of the TOC does have transparency applied which tells me that transparencies do work in the application but not with layers coming from a layer package.

2. Layer state behaviour:
a. Even though some layers are checked on, they do not appear in the map until the parent group layer is fully toggled on. It is like you have to �??nudge�?? the application to turn on the layers. When delivering the maps to non-GIS professionals we want to give a consistent look and this behaviour doesn�??t help give us the confidence we are looking for.
b. When a group layer is turn off and on, none of the layer states of the sub-layers are preserved. This is not the way it works in ArcMap, has anyone seen this behavior?
c. Is there a way to move layers up and down in the TOC that have been added as a group layer?

3. Maptips:
a. Is there a way to format the maptips. I�??ve got carriage returns in some of my maptip expression when used in ArcMap , however when viewed in Explorer, these aren�??t being shown, instead its one single line.

4. The Legend:
a. This only refreshes once users re-select the group layer in the legends drop down. Can this be made automatic?

5. The Identify feature box:
a. This disappears once I�??ve selected a category to interrogate, unlike in ArcGIS which keeps the identify tool open?
b. When this does close, it always re-opens at the same size. Can it remember the same it was when it was last used?

6. Max Extents:
a. I�??ve seen a few posts about setting max extents in the map, but haven�??t been able to accomplish this myself. Is there an option in the setup for this?

My main issue with ArcGIS Explorer in this Beta and previous versions is when trying to label a map note in arabic
its not shown correctly but as a title its fine and as the new map text its also fine. I have attached a screen shot
of the issue.

Mark Bockenhauer - this is the slowest release of a new build I have ever seen from Esri. We are six months into "2012 beta" and 15 months with build 1750. This is an important application for many of us and more frequent updates regarding the status of the new build would be much appreciated. Build 2013 will be out when? Approximately?

I have to agree with the comments here, we need more info about the release of AGX 2012 (2013 now). I have dozens of people relying on this software to view services created using our VERY expensive tools from ESRI. ANY type of information regarding the release would be very helpful.
