ArcGIS Mobile 10.1.1 No GPS fix (communication)

Hi everyone,

I've recently installed ArcGIS for Mobile 10.1.1 on our Juno SB and it will not talk to the GPS unit on COM 4, 4800 baud as specified in the literature. It does say it is connected, but gives the message no fix and a ? in the map.

I've tried creating intermediate GPS ports (e.g. COM 3 - using the system tools) and also tried various other baud rates on COM 4 and the intermediate ports. No success.

I also have Trimble Terrasync available on the device and when activated it does pick up the satellites without any problem. It also has the most current almaniac downloaded.

Does anyone have any suggestion or tips? I'm sure I've missed something. The older Mobile 3.x worked on this device (although the ArcGIS toolboxes were problematic).

PS: The installation software ran into problems transferring the .cab file to the Juno device. I had to manually copy the .cab file from C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Mobile10.1.1\Install\ArcGISMoblie.CAB to the Juno and activate there.

This issue was resolved by setting the GPS protocol from SiRF to NEMA. It is odd that the prior install of ArcGIS for Mobile 3.x worked.

No fix (and a "?" too) was shown when the GPS is not connected.

I remembered I read an ESRI tech document saying GIS Mobile would work with any GPS supporting NMEA .
With that saying, it means it use NMEA protocol to talk with GPS. So you will have to use NMEA (another option is "Auto" in GIS Mobile).

In GIS Mobile, the first screen after you open a mobile project, click on Memu and then "Settings..." Then you see "GPS GPS Setting..."
In the next screen, click on "GPS Connection Setting if you want to make changes. It is where you can change the GPS setting.
