I am trying to add data from a ArcGIS server using ArcPAD using the "Add data from server" button. however It does not connect. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step? Please help....
See Screen shot. attached.
ArcPad builds the REST API URL from the server address. So, in your case you should try http://gis:6080/
By the way thank you so much for your replies. I need to get this thing sorted out by the end of the week. What I'm ultimately trying to archieve is to be able to collect data from the field and have them synced back to the server at the same time.
Hey Stephen. I'm going to work on this first thing in the morning then I will reply to you. Like I said before I have another big problem. The tablets I have using have Arcpad 10.0 which does not have the sync with feature service option. The type of options I am seeing that I can connect to are " arcgis online service" , " arcpad server arcpad service" and "arcims image service" . When I try to add the feature service although I could see it appear in the list when I try to add it to the map I think a window popped up either to Save an arcgis onljne file or open one. Away from the tablet now. I'll confirm first thing in the morning.
Hi Gideon,
That's a good question. Whilst I told you to just supply the server URL (i.e. http://gis:6080) when doing an Add Data from Server, the URL you need to give for "Add feature service URL to AXF" is the deeper REST API for your feature service.
It would look something like: https://external/arcgis/rest/services/GIS_MAP/FeatureServer
When you expose a Feature Service externally, it is up to you to choose the URLs and how they map to your internal server. e.g. you may say that https://external/arcgis/ maps to http://gis:6080/arcgis/ - it's really up to you (website administrator) to choose how much or how little of your Feature Service you want to expose.
Stephen
One last question.. Which URL should I expose with my Web Domain in order to access this service externally when I check out data using the "Get data for arcpad" tool then use the " Add feature service URL to AXF" in order to sync edits back to the server.?
See : https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2013/09/22/feature-service-sync-in-arcpad-10-2/ for the tutorial I am referring to.
regards
Gideon
I've got another issue now. THe arcpad version I was using to test this service was the evaluation 10.2 version however the actual tablets have Arcpad 10.0 installed. Will this work the same way?
OMG!!! it totally WORKED!!! haha. Thanks!! GOSH! So simple???? I've been racking my brains for days now trying to figure this out. THanks Stephen!
Hey Randall.
Thanks so much for your reply! Replies have been hard coming!
So when I tried the "Soap" format which you suggested first of I get an error message saying " error 404 no services found" then when I try the "Rest"format I get an error message saying " Invalid URL" . On the other hand, when I try the REST URL in the web browser I can see the services that are available.
see below.
please help! I need to get this sorted out ASAP ......
Thanks in Advance!
Instead of trying to reach a specific service, try to connect to the GIS Server and allow the services to be listed, then choose the one you want.
Use this URL (I *think* ArcPad uses SOAP instead of REST, so you'd omit the REST directory from the context):
http://gis:6080/arcgis/services
if not, try REST:
http://gis:6080/arcigis/rest/services
You may want to try Moving Content to the ArcPad space for more exposure (that just tagged it)
I'll also tag Enterprise GIS and MVertzonis-esristaff
Its been difficult to get any kind of response. I saw a post of since 2014 and no one responded even to this date lol.. So i'm just here hoping I get a response. By the way i'm using ArcPad 10.2 along with Server 10.5
You may want to mention what version of ArcPad and Server you are using. I still use 7.1.1 and don't get my data from a service, so can be much help there. I did find this thread https://community.esri.com/thread/47787 that might be of some help.
ArcPad is still a great product and in my opinion there is no true replacement for complicated field collection. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there are many users on geonet yet. This will give it a bounce so maybe more will see it. With the UC last week, many were out.
Can't anybody help with this? No one has tried it before? Whats the correct URL that I should be using? PLease help...
