Uploading Shapefile Versus Publishing Feature Acess and Tiled Features

When we publish a tile or a feature access feature, we must ensure the coordinate system is set to Web Mercator. Does this also apply to when we upload a shapefile to ArcGIS online.

Is it best practice to change coordinate system of shapefile to Web Mercator before uploading a shapefile to ArcGIS Online or does it matter?

Hi Carlynn,

For performance reasons, it's best to have the data in the same projection as the application it will be used in. This way there is no need for projecting the data each time it is requested.  So if you usually put your data on top of the main ArcGIS basemaps, then yes, it is best practice to upload your data as Web Mercator.
