Exporting from ArcMap to Illustrator CS5

I am exporting from ArcMap 10.1 to Illustrator CS5. When I open the ai file there are a lot of text errors. I have tried changing the export dpi but the issue isn't resolved. I can accept a few errors but there are too many to fix in ai. This is a workflow that I have used before (ArcMap 9.3) with minimal to no errors. The only thing that has changed is I have moved to ArcMap 10.1. Any ideas to fix this problem?

Turns out it was a legacy text issue. Recreated all of the annotation in current version of ArcGIS and there were no issues exporting from .mxd to .ai
