Symbology Date field - sort by

Hy,
is anyone has problem with sorting "DATE" Field in Layer Prpoerties - Symbology - Value Field - Value?
When you select different type of data, like text then work correctly but with DATE type No.
I'm trying to make grup of symbology by different year value (2011,2012,2013...)
Any ideas, bug or ...??

I know this thread is old. I'm having the same issue.
ESRI is there a better sort filter you can build into the symbology function of Arc? ‌
