Add date modified for data to dashboard

How can I add to a dashboard date modified for the data in the dashboard?  I added a Rich Text widget with the following text "Last update: {item/modified}".  This shows the modified date for the dashboard, not for the data in the dashboard.  How do I get the date for the data or feature layer in the dashboard?

You can't. The Item info is only for the Dashboard itself. What I typically do, is add a List element using the data I want to display the date for. I set the maximum features displayed to 1 and sort descending on the Edit Date in my data.

Then I style the list as if it is a rich text element using that edit date field.
