Hello All. I use survey123 for arcgis version3.5.164. I cant get offline map/image/basemap using tpk file appear in the map types in this version when I go offline using survey123 which is possible in the previous version. Is there any limitation for the latest update?
Hi @DiegoLlamas,
Just wanted to let you know with the upcoming 3.16 October Release of Survey123 we will support .tpkx file formats for map packages. You can test out the latest 3.16 beta builds via the Early Adopter Community to get early access to these builds.
Regards,
Phil.
Hi Diego,
Survey123 does not currently support the .tpkx format, we only support the original .tpk format. We are working on supporting .tpkx in both the Basic and Standard map type option in the future, as it requires changes to both Connect and the field app, as well as changes to the underlying plugin that displays the maps.
Is there are reason why you needed to choose .tpkx over .tpk, can you try to save the tile package as a .tpk (not .tpkx) and then Survey123 Connect and the field app will be able to display it using the Basic and Standard map type option.
Hello Asaf EvenPaz
i generate a tpkx in arcgis pro 2.4. i create a test survey in connect because i wanted to add the tpkx file so when people download the survey with the tpk file for the offline map purposes i create a media folder and added the file there but did not worked. i download the survey to survey123 and create a map folder and added the file but i have this message
how can i add the tpkx file now in connect so when i download the survey i came with the offline map file?
this is the tpk file i used map.zip - Google Drive
regards,
diego llamas
Thanks Philip!
Is there a tentative release date/period for 3.6?
Hi Jennifer,
I have been able to reproduce the problem with 3.5. The issue appears to be a bug in 3.5 with the Android 32-bit app version only, and is related to the updated Qt 5.12.1 framework version being used. From my testing all other supported OS versions (Windows, iOS, MacOS and even Android 64-bit) are all working as expected with the same tpk files.
I have created a bug in our system for this issue and we will work on it as priority to fix for the 3.6 release.

Hi Braden,
As replied in my email, I have been able to reproduce the problem with 3.5, using your tpk. Good news is that there is nothing wrong with the tpk file itself, and it should work in 3.5 like it did in 3.3.

On the Android devices the tpk is not working on with 3.5, can you tell me if the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the Survey123 app is installed?
You can check this in the About screen of the app, tap and hold the Powered by AppStudio text, and more detailed system information should be displayed. Please send me the Device Architecture and Build Architecture of those devices the tpk is not working on?
Thanks,
I am unable to access the survey, can you send me the xlsx form and the tpk file also? Need to investigate further, but appears the issue is related to older Android devices, and that the same survey and tpk works on Windows and iOS? Is that correct?
Do you have any Android devices that the tpk file is working on, never devices for example?
Same issue in Field App 3.5.164 on an older Samsung Galaxy S5 (Android 6.0.1): tpk maps won't display (but are present in survey folder on device) and map icon disappears when off network. Reinstall of App and survey didn't fix it. Survey and map worked just fine on Field App 3.3, offline map still appears in Connect 3.5.
Maps also do not display on an older Motorola (Android 6.0) phone.
However, maps do show on an older iOS device (iPhone 7).
Example survey available here:
https://arcg.is/898Xe
I made a brand new tpk with Kreator 1.3.30 and issue persists on a simple survey on the original offending device.
We do not have an app version 4.0.21, are you referring to the AppStudio Framework version? Can you please provide the Survey123 app version, it should be 3.5.xyz or similar?
Also, can you give more details on the exact issue you are having, and if possible provide a copy of the survey xlsx form and the tpks files?
Hi
We are having the same issues with our Samsung Tab A (T380s) when using the Survey123 App version 4.0.21. Do you expect this to be resolved soon?
Hi Tatag,
I tested the 3.3 version, 3.5 version and new 3.6 beta version with your tpk file you provided and I am able to view in the geopoint map widget. I manually loaded via folder on the device, as well as using new linked content in 3.6 beta, and I can see this tpk in the map viewer. There is no different between 3.3 and 3.5 release from this respect, and it is improved in 3.6 with new handling of enhanced map types.
The first screenshot below is 3.5 release, the second is 3.6 beta:
Any updates on this yet? We have surveyors out in the field that are being hindered by this issue.
Hi Phillip,
Here is the copy of the tpk file and survey folder as a zip; the xlsx form file should be included in that.
Files - Google Drive
Please note that the form in question will only display the Geopoint survey question when Side = RT and Zone = 3, this is intentional functionality. I cannot attest specifically to how the .tpk was generated as I was not the one to create it; however, I do know the person who created the file and they followed the instructions outlined in https://doc.arcgis.com/en/survey123/desktop/create-surveys/preparebasemaps.htm to do so; I will also echo that this file was working before the update. In order to load the file onto the device I plugged the device into a desktop PC and transferred the map file to the '/ArcGIS/My Surveys/Maps' folder on the device (not onto an SD card as this device does not have an SD card installed). I then verified the file was there by checking the settings under the survey 123 app, but still, the geopoint question does not display the desired offline map and even selecting the hamburger menu located at the top right of the screen with the default world map open does not show the map in the folder as an option. I have also tried selecting the same file from the connect app for use under the settings options for the form in an attempt to connect the form to the file, but this also fails to yield results.
Hi Phil,
They are all .tpk . This occurs with any custom tile package I use. I even downloaded an ESRI basemap (Topography) with collector and brought it over to the Survey123 app and they all show up in the map library in the storage settings but none are available in the Survey's themselves. They all work on other devices though using the same version of the app. I installed the Classic version on the offending device and everything works as expected. I'm unable to share tile packages due to restrictions.
Hi Mason,
Can you share a copy of the tpk file you are using, and your xlsx form file and survey folder zipped up? How did you create the tpk and how did you load it the device or associate it with the survey?
Can you share a copy of the offline basemap you are using? Is it s tpk file?
I am also having this issue. The base maps load just fine (i.e. the imagery that ships with all forms: World Street Map, World Imagery, Etc...) but any customized maps specifically loaded onto the device for offline use will not appear. This is a big problem for us since we need these maps in order to run surveys in the field and are using them as a reference. This was previously working with the files mentioned. In fact, they seem to work with the Connect app for the PC just fine, just not the Survey 123 app for the device in question (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2019). The storage settings will still show the maps as listed in the map library for the app, but despite this, the offline maps will still not appear in the window during collection of data. This is clearly an issue with the app. Please fix ASAP!
I'm also experiencing similar behavior since the new update but seems confined to a certain device (Samsung J3 running Android 8.0 as an example). Survey123 just doesn't seem to be picking up on the basemap for some reason whether in a private folder or the library. The exact same basemap works fine on Collector on the same phone and works fine on other devices (Samsung S9, IPad, Windows) in Survey123 so I know its not the basemap itself and everything was working fine prior.
If you do not see the map it would indicate the format of the tpk or the coordinate system is not supported. However if it was working previously I would be interested to know why it does not now.
Would you be able to share the tpk file, and your xlsx file, so we can take a closer look?
Thank you for the response. I used tpk with this link TPK - Google Drive
In the previous version, tpk created using Arcgis 6.0 can be shown with offline mobile data
in the new version (3.5.164) the map does not appear (only coordinates of the location)
There shouldn't be a change in behavior with offline maps, and I am seeing the expected behavior with a sample TPK. Are you able to share the TPK file?
