Has anyone created a One Line Diagram or has employed a third party?

Hi All,

I'm looking for insight into creating a One Line Diagram map for my Engineering team. I am a one person GIS team with a small utility and our Engineers have view only privileges and are therefore unable to leverage Network Diagrams.

My current plan is to copy our UN model into another database and simplify it into a One Line that can be edited and maintained by me alongside our regular UN (I'm the only one who makes changes to both). Has anyone else done anything like this, or know of a better way to do it with this sole editor/pro license setup? We are open to hiring this work out as well.

May I ask - what type of 'single line diagram'?

Subway diagrams with no correlation with underlying geometries?

Or diagrams keeping substations / switching locations about at the right place and then making connections in-between these clearer?

I've done some tests generating such and would be interested to know what type of single-line diagram you're aiming for.

Hi Anne-Yvonne,

We've actually spoken about this topic before! I'm looking to create a single diagram of my entire utility network, not just subnetworks and not on demand, and I want it to function as a set of feature layers that can be added to a map/app and interacted with in that way.

I must emphasize that my users do not have ArcGIS Pro licenses and this is for them to use for electric switching processes via the third party Utility Network Editor by Esri UK or through Enterprise Apps I create for them.

I'm essentially looking for a way to duplicate my Utility Network in another SQL database and streamline it by reducing line vertices and asset type visibility and maintaining them both by making the same edits to each. I was hoping someone had done something like this before and could advise, but I may have to strike off on my own.

You can generate diagrams representing subnetworks, but you can also create diagrams without using system tier. Network diagrams are generally created to represent logical parts of your network, such as the network elements downstream of a specific equipment, the network elements located within a substation, a  set of interconnected subnetworks, a telecom circuit.
