Great idea. Every field season I made several 50x50m grid layers for field crews to overlay on their maps. A scalebar would eliminate the need to do this.

Def gets my vote! I too have to add grids of varying sizes to help surveyors.

I very much agree. At the very least a scale value indicator would suffice.
