(From Charles Convis letter to meeting attendees): "1993 is the year of the environment in America, especially since we finally have an environmental president and vice-president. The economy has also brought our focus onto advanced technologies, placing GIS squarely in the spotlight of national attention. Environmental and conservation applications of GIS have already played important roles in many national events, including the Earth Summit, the Earth Council, and the Western Forest Summit.
