MrSid image export

Just loaded version 10 - am having problems with creating image files with the ArcPad Data Manager.
In previous versions I could utilize a MrSid file and set the parameters to clip the image to the current display extent. The result would be a clipped MrSid file.
With the current version the only way I can get a clipped image is to change select the export as JPEG or TIFF. When 'Export as background using original raster' is selected it exports the full extent.
I don't see any way to create a clipped MrSid.
Missing something?
Anyone have a work around?

Don't be mistaken. All your existing MrSID imagery will still continue to work. The MrSID reader capability exists in both ArcGIS 10 and ArcPad 10.

I won't even attempt to offer a guess as to why the MrSID writer was removed from ArcGIS 10.

I acknowledge that it's you the users that suffer whenever previous functionality gets deprecated. ArcPad Data Manager, unfortunately, gets impacted since it has to reflect that loss of functionality from ArcGIS 10.

Stephen, you say the viewer capability is still there but it is not working for us in our workgroup. Is there a trick to turning the MrSid viewing capability on in ArcMap 10? All our old MrSid files look corrupted in ArcMap 10 but not ArcMap 9.3 but we need to use ArcMap 10. How can we view them? Thanks in advance.

My question is that in ArcPad 7, I was doing a project and copied on my PDA, and kept everything open (including the images in MrSid format), but in ArcPad 10, I can do the project on my PC and copied to PAD the problem is it does not recognize images, displays everything in black.

Not to do??, I appreciate your cooperation.

Has anyone since come up with way to convert, export or save to MrSID?

I am trying to edit some NAIP rasters, and I fear this will be pointless if I can't.

Here's hoping I can install an older version than 10 at the same time...

MrSid was important to us as well. I have field-going personnel that cover thousands of Alaskan acres on one field trip- how else am I going to be able to package up background imagery (1:63,360quad sheets) into a small enough file size? I say bad move ESRI.

MrSID is no longer being supported in ArcGIS 10 as an export format. So, unfortunately, that meant it had to be pulled from ArcPad's Data Manager too.

Yes, I noticed that MrSID is no longer available. ESRI should post, when announcing a new version, what is NO LONGER availble in new versions along with the new good stuff. MrSID was very very useful and very valuable to me. Fortunately I have version 9.3 running on the old laptop.
