* Updated some code for API Version 3.1
* Added Token Element to layers and tables
* Fixed some bugs with layer zoom settings.
* Removed geometryservice from eSearchWidget.xml as it gets this from the main config.xml now.
* Added some error trapping to URL Searches using improper parameters
* Changed the URL Search parameter to esearch (was search) as esri is now using search for their
purposes and it was conflicting with mine.

Quick question: Does the uniquevalsfromfield tag for populating a drop down list only work against Server 10.x? I can't get it to work against 9.3.1.

The service isn't public, so we can't do that. But maybe I just haven't configured it properly:

The layer url tag is correct and the layer does have a field called NAME.

Also not a real big deal but if you use the uniquevalsfromfield than your sql would look like this instead:

I briefly get the unique values indicator with the count message, although the count never moves from '0 of 0'. Then I get an empty drop down.

Well, I have no good news... I am using the returnIdsOnly parameter in the uniquevalsfromfield and that was introduced in ArcGIS Server 10. So no you can not use uniquevalsfromfield on a 9.3.1 map service. I will update my PDF to make this clear in the next release.

If you need a work around, at the bottom of this post, http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/67106-Enhanced-Search-Widget-Loading-userlist-from-attributtable I posted my python script that gets the uniquevalues and updates the userlist with it (actually updates the eSearchWidget.xml file). not real-time, but can be scheduled to keep your data semi up to date.

This code is for arcpy, but shouldn't be too difficult to convert to gp.

Version 3.1.2 - 1/2/2013
* When features are added to the selection they appear at the top of the Widgets results list.
* When features are removed the order of the results remains the same minus the removed results.

Thank you both to Robert and Rhett for the information. We will soon be upgrading to 10.1 so it wasn't horrible news that I can't use uniquevalsfromfield on a 9.3.1 map service. Again, thanks!

I am trying to add this widget on my viewer without much success.
I think I followed the steps in the document but so far cannot able to add this widget to the viewer.
I am using complied flex viewer 3.1.

add widget in the UI element before the overview map widget
and also add widget inside of widgetcontaniner and make it preload.

but not opening.

can you tell me what I am missing?

you would only add to the UI elements if you are planning on using the FIXED data grid and would be similar to:

    <widget left="0" right="0" bottom="0" url="widgets/eSearch/SearchWidgetFixedDG.swf" config="widgets/eSearch/SearchWidgetFixedDG.xml"/>

The actuall eSearchWidget would be put in the widgetcontainer as such:

        <widget label="Search" left="600" top="50" height="450" preload="open"
                icon="assets/images/i_search.png"
                config="widgets/eSearch/eSearchWidget.xml"
                url="widgets/eSearch/eSearchWidget.swf"/>

As long as you have copied the compiled code to the widgets/eSearch folder, it should find it and open it.
Should also put a button on the toolbar to re-open it if needed.

I did exact the same way but not working. the title bar is blank and widgets are not visible.
I used the complied 3.1 viewer and add the eSearch widget to the folder and edited configuration file but still not working.
Should I use 3.0 version?

I am wondering if its possible to create reports or data sheets from results that are returned from the eSearch widget.

I am trying to figure out how I can build a data sheet from information that is retrieved using the eSearch widget and temporarly stored within the provided table. The data is being stored somewhere temporarily.

I would like to create a data sheet or report tool/widget or link that obtains its information from the eSearch tool and can be displayed on command via a link. I have seen similar style documents/reports created and used in JavaScript maps.

The data sheet would have various values arranged from the associated table along with a mini map of the feature in question.

Can this be done with Flex and the eSearch?

Where exactly is the data from the eSearch table stored?

Can I access it and use it to make a data sheet?

yes, i see the results in the widget with the binoculars. the map is not displaying them until i get to a scale in which the layer searched on is visible.

I am still struggling with why you are experiencing this issue. I have had no other reports of any issue close to this. Can you try and add the new symbology tag to your layers?

When using the Graphical Search (I noticed this in your linked site - http://gis.calhouncounty.org/FlexViewer3.1/index.html?config=config-eSearch.xml&esearch=2&slayer=3&exprnum=1 for Road Centerlines, as well as my own testing), after the Results are shown, if you try to click on the map then it will draw another shape instead of allowing the user to click on one of the highlighted search results on the map. Not sure if it's just a config issue?

The second issue I noticed is that if you clear a search, do another Graphical Search with Add to Current Selection selected, then it will cause an Error #1009 to appear. I also tested this using your Road Centerlines.

Don't know if this helps with the 1009 error, but I can reproduce, but with 3.1.2 I do not get the error AND it makes the selection. However, it does not send the data to the fixed datagrid.

If I create new selection it populates the DG, then add to it and it gets added to the DG. Just the selected features don't populate the grid when "add to" selection is chosen and no selection exists.

Maybe this helps narrow it down,

NP Robert. I'll test that out, haven't had time to test your latest version of eSearch (3.1.3) yet - I have to upgrade today from 3.1.2. The 1009 error was something that I noticed when trying to configure my own eSearch xml to look like your sample version.

One thing I'm still a little fuzzy on is how the Relates and Tables types work differently from the layer types so trying to do some testing to get a better understanding. I had been working with an older version of eSearch that only used layers + definition expressions in the XML, so trying to get caught up with the latest features. Thanks again for all of your work.
