How do I suppress the ugly legend title that's auto-populated when GIS().map(legend=True,...)?

The only way to do this when map is type jupyter GIS().map() is by

* creating a feature class with spatial.to_feature_collection(name=..., drawing_info=[generated renderer (see step 2.)])
* generating a renderer with mapping.renderer.generate_renderer(..., label="foobar", ...)
* GIS().map.add_layer(feature_class)
