Value from ArcPad checkbox

We are in the process of upgrading our old 7.0.1 ArcPad applications to version 10.2.2. One issue we have encountered is checkboxes on the custom form (7.0.1) resulted in value = 1 for True and value = 0 for false. In the new version of the application ArcPad is now generating -1 for True and 0 for false. Is there any way to change this? It is wrecking havoc on our enterprise database downstream.
