ArcMap crashes when using ArcPad Data Manager

I have a feature class in a file geodatabase that contains three subtypes. When I use the Get Data for ArcPad button and set the Action to Checkout for Disconnected Editing | Data Based on Defined Extent ArcMap crashes every time. I've tried this in ArcMap 10.1 and 10.0. I understand that subtypes are compatible with ArcPad.

Anyone have any ideas?
