Hello,

I am trying to set up the eSearch widget on a non-geographic table containing metadata.

When the search query is run the results/data grid return the correct number of results. However, all columns and rows are blank.

I figure that since the correct numbers of results is being returned the widget is able to access the data, however it is not making it to the results table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This normally happen when individuals miss the part of the documentation about the need to add the gridfield or gridfieldonly attributes to each field tag that you want to appear in the datagrid (so this mean you have to configure which fields you want to go to the datagrid, and you can not just use the fields all equals true attribute).

Thank for your quick response.

It is actually when I set the fields all=false that the problem arises. when fields all=true then the results are displayed correctly in the results window (but of course not in the datagrid).

I've just reviewed the fields section of the configuration document.

I have fields all=false and each field desired in the datagrid specified as gridfield='true'. The visible field is true by default and therefore not necessary, I've also tried adding it, but it makes no difference.

When fields all=false the correct column headings are displayed in the data grid and the correct number of results, there is just no text displayed - only blank rows. Each row can be highlighted and the corresponding row in the results box will also highlight when this is done. Again on the results tab the correct number of results are given, but they are empty.

What else could I be missing?

OK, so i think explaining it in the forum clarified in my mind that it must be a field name issue. A little mystifying as I was using the same field names in the expressions and values section as in the fields section.

I remade the table with slightly amended field names and the widget works as desired. So I am happy and thank you for your response.

Its been a while since i last talked with you. I've got an application that im migrating over from flex 2.4 and your earlier esearch widget. I'm working on getting it to work the way i want while having to learn the new coding. I'm under a bit of a time crunch and was hoping you could point out what i need to fix.

I've attached the following xml i'm working with. my problems are:

in my layers that have attributes that i would like to be able to have hyperlinks to my coding is not working example "PHOTOLINKS" field should be a hyperlink. I've been reading the pdf about hyperlinks and such and am not getting it. When i do a graphical search the fields show the fully hyperlink but it does not link and it does not show the alias i tried creating.

Also my text search syntax and coding is wrong as well. I would like then to be able to do a word search in the hyperlink field for any word in the hyperlink.

If you can help me figure this out then i think i can duplicate this in my other layers.

Tim,

Sure your issue with the link is that you now have to have the link field name in a CDATA block. And the issue with your expression is you have the wildcard part of % in your expression but you are using the equal sign and not the LIKE operator like you should be using.

Hey Robert, I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong with the eSearch widget.   When creating buffers they seem about 2/3 the size they should be and when you do a search entities the search selects points that are outside of the buffer (like the shown buffer is to small). I saw the other post and my spatialreference seems to be set correctly:

When I use the

<spatialreference>102003</spatialreference>

as comes in the eSearchWidget.xml by default it works great for me as far as getting a 3 mile buffer that measures 3 miles using the Draw or eDraw widget. Each projection has some distortion either shape, area, length so the WKID of 102003 is probably best for you unless you want to use the 1983 UTM WKID for your area.

Thanks Robert that worked. All my services say they use spatial reference 102100 (which is WGS 1984 Web Mercator). Just curious why does 102003 work?

Because 102003 is "USA Contiguous Albers Equal Area Conic" whch means that it will have less distortion in shape and area in the US than using a world projection like WebMercator.

Hello Robert,
Thanks to your new eSearch widget. It allows us to easily navigate around our new flex app. But there are certain features we'd like to enable or enhance if possible. The two features particularly are: The ability to EDIT and add an additional halo around the selected shape.
I would really appreciate if you could please provide some guidance in enabling those features.

At first - you are doing such a great work for the community, your widgets, your approach,... I appreciate it!

To my problem - when using graphical search (choose the exact tool, let´s say polygon, then "draw" a polygon), the tool (drawing polygon) stay active after completing search. Is there a way how to disable this? How to turn cursor "back to pan" automatically after drawing a polygon?

That is an option in the eSearchWidget.xml and covered in the configuration.pdf.

Set keepgraphicalsearchenabled to false.

Thank you for all of your work in keeping the widgets up to date.

I am in the process of upgrading my flex site to 3.5 and am having a minor issue with the Enhanced Search. The search runs properly, but the parcels are not highlighting like they do on the Calhoun County example (see attachment). I have gone through my eSearchWidget.xml file line by line and compared it to the original in the download, and I can't seem to find the field that would turn on this feature. I also read through the entire configuration pdf document and I couldn't find anything in their either.

Check that the layer symbology for your parcels layer is actually polygon symbology and not line symbology.

The parcels are polygons and the geometry type listed in the ArcGIS Services Directory shows esriGeometryPolygon. Or is there somewhere else I need to look to verify this?

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I don't have any symbology tags for the layer. The only symbology listed is near the bottom of the eSearchWidget.xml file in a symbols section.

Do I need to use the symbology tags in the layer in order for them to show up? When I zoom in I can see the symbology fine, it's only when the map is at the full extent that they are not showing up correctly.

OK now that explains it. You need to set this

<removeserchlayersminmaxscale>true</removeserchlayersminmaxscale>

In the newer eSearch widgets it respects scale dependency that is set for that layer.

Hi Robert: This is a great widget! I would like to add a definition expression and I can't figure out the code to get it to work. I would like to search for parks by park name but only parks within the City of Watertown. When I use the definition query below, the park list still includes all parks within the County. Could you give me a tip on my code? I did run the same definition query expression in the REST and it does work there, only returning parks within the City of Watertown.

Hi Robert,

I'm using the 3.1 version of the viewer and the last version of the eSearch widget you created for that particular viewer.

I am getting error 1010 on the text portion of the widget. My viewer is set up where I have a strict graphical search and a strict text search. The graphical search is working fine.

I am also noticing that when I first try to search a layer in the text search, the 'search' button stays grayed out. I will change the layer and then I can do a search. That is when I get the 1010 error.

Any guidance on resolving this issue would be appreciated!

Can I assume based on the outdated version of the viewer that you are using that you have had the eSearch widget working with other text searches? What does your eSearchWidget.xml look like for the errant layer?

I've got the 3.0 version of the widget working on two maps. This is the first time I've used the 3.1 version of it. I'm hoping to get all of the maps updated to the newest version of the viewer in the next few months. I've attached the .xml as a .zip for my current problem.

Some additional information - I found a thread yesterday regarding this error. It had to do with having sublayers in the main config file. There was a fix available for the graphic search, but not the text search. Not sure if this is causing the problem or not.
