Any time I run a geoprocessing tool it doesn't fully complete. The output is successfully created, but I have to restart ArcMap to stop the processing and add the newly creature feature to my map. I thought upgrading to 10.5 would resolve it, but it hasn't. Any ideas?

Have you tried turning off background geoprocessing?
