Cascade Story Map won't load in embed or local host

I would like to host my own story map and when I put the appid in index.html, the story map won't load. It hangs on the loading splash screen.

The same thing happens when I tried embedding.

I uploaded the files onto my web server and it worked! It seems that I cannot open the index.html from my desktop.

I'll be experimenting with Alison Sizer's suggestions (so far having some trouble). I'll report back if anything comes out of it.

I'm a developer on the Story Maps team looking into this. I've followed the steps above, and can't seem to reproduce this problem.

One question -- have you deployed the downloaded code to a web server? Looking at some of the links in your copy/paste above, I think maybe you just put it on your desktop, and opened index.html as a file. I'm not sure what kind of computer you have, but you'll need to put this code on a web server of some sort. Many PCs come with a web server called IIS, while Macs have built-in Apache servers (both of which you'd have to enable).

I have followed these instructions for hosting your own Story Map,

I downloaded the Ready-to-deploy app from the Overview page of the Cascade app.

The problem is coming after I have done all of that.
