Failed to Rename an Annotation Feature Class

I am trying to rename an existing annotation feature class in an SDE geodatabase. I receive an error that a similarly named feature class already exists. I have checked for locks or connections to the feature class and I can't find anything with the same name on the SDE. Could there be logs that retain that feature class name? How do I overwrite the name or search for an exact list of feature classes?
