Year field to LGMs INSTALLDATE field

I am preparing our data for uploading into the Cdn Local Govt template and will likely be using Gitzinta.  One common problem I have is pretty well all our data records for infrastructure have only a Year field.  I'd like to transfer this year field to LGIMs Date field.  So I would have something like this:

Field     Data Type  Value
Year_   String         2012

copied to

Field              Data Type  Value
INSTALLDATE  Date          2012-00-00

If I have to fill the MM DD field I will have to use something generic like 2012-06-01.

What would be the python or VB statement to do this in Field Calculator? At this point if I have to learn a bit of either would it be best to to go with Python?

Hello Robert,

I know a bit of VB and a fair amount of python. I would definitely go with python myself. It is a very easy to understand language. I'm sure others would both agree and disagree.

That being said, it's really easy either way.

Python:

!Year! + "-06-01"

VB:

[Year] & "-06-01"
