Planerize

I have a county wide polyline feature class I'd like to planerize, but I'm running into a problem with the data, and I'm not sure what to look for.  When I pick and choose lines to select it seems okay:

But if I select a swath, it's not happy:

Same selected set, different methods of selection....

It looks like there are features from multiple layers selected. In the one that does not work, I see features from the following selected:

1. AddressGridMSD_Dissolve_Ident (4)
2. AddressGridMSD (34)

On the one that works you just have: AddressGridMSD (27)

Maybe unselect the features from AddressGridMSD_Dissolve_Ident?

Does it work then?
