Altering Feature Templates with Python

Question

Is there a way to set feature templates using a python script?  I have looked on Google for some time now, and I can't find any way to alter the feature templates using Python.

It isn't in the arcpy object model What is ArcPy?—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

if it exists as a tool, you can use python to access its interface.  If it isn't a tool, you are out of luck
