Use Database instead of Services.

Normally i use feature server or map server service to show data into my web application but now i want to use

database(SQL Server) to fetch data from DB instead of services, is it possible?? if yes then kindly provide some useful links.

There is no way to query a database that is not an ArcGIS Service without a web service being built for that database access.
