Split / Divide large polygon with point shapefile

I have a large polygon shapefile that represents streets and a large point shapefile that represents intersections.
Is there a way to split the polygon shapefile at each intersection point?

You need to use the voids between the roads as your polygons. If you don't have that, create it using the "erase" tool under "overlay".
Create a polygon surrounding your roads, erase the road spaces, then explode the resultant polygon to create the voids.

Both my files have a field "NewID" populated with zeros.
I tested my theory, used a different polygon shapefile with a few polygons and got the "spider effect".
It appears that because the road polygon is one large polygon I am not able to get the desired results.

check the settings.

In my case, both fields named "none" are populated with zeros.

I attempted to reproduce what you had indicated, and it partially worked.
I think, due to my polygon shapefile being just a few large polygons is the reason that I am only getting one leg and not a multi-leg (spider effect) result.[ATTACH=CONFIG]29611[/ATTACH]

spend a couple of hundred dollars on ET Geowizards, well worth the money for us poor ArcGIS Basic users.

Ensure that there is a field in each of the intersection and void polygon layers that have identical values (I created a field in each called NewID and populated all with zeros. If the are unique it will only do matching polygons)

Eliminate all of the unwanted polylines in the resultant shape file (i.e. lines > 5 m etc.)

Use resultant polyline shape file with the Polygon\Split Polygons with Polylines tool to split your road polygons.

You need to find a script or tool that will draw a polyline from each intersection point to each "void" polygon to get started.

I recall using a tool a couple of years ago (it escapes me now) that took a point file, and created a shape file layer of polylines that gave minimum distances from each point to each polygon in the other layer (in this case the polygons between the road polygons).

This looks like what was done here, but delete any polylines with length greater than the road width, and use that polyline shape file to cut the road polygons.

I think is was one of the spider diagram tools in ET Geowizards

I would have thought there would be a tool out there somewhere, I have seen other files from other agencies that where done this same way while searching for a solution but no one will let me in on the "secert".:)

Could you use the streets as lines in the Create Polygons tool? This might result in some extra polygons, but less manual work than other approaches. This seems too easy though, I must be missing something.

I do have a road segment polyline file but no width data included.

Someone in our organization has done this before but now I am tasked with reproducing an update and unable contact the person who originally completed the task. See the attached. somehow it looks as if lines where placed at the points on intersections and then processed.[ATTACH=CONFIG]29499[/ATTACH]

That's the messy part. I think you're in for a lot of manual work here either way, unless you have a convenient road segment polyline file with width data included.

I have tried the buffer option by doesn't seem to work because of the intersections are not consistant in size or configuration, some our 2 leg, 3 leg, 4 leg, and 5 leg intersections.

Need a "new" polygon shapefile that has intersection to intersection polygons.
No need to name the polygons, though would be nice..
I will be using these individual polygons to calculate square feet and items contained within
each polygon for assest management.

The only way I see is, creating a buffer around your points and using that polygon file to cut your street file.
