3D mapping Soil Nutrients, Chemistry and Microbe Communities

I am going to be doing an academic project which requires me to take soil samples for laboratory analysis. Here are several questions which I need to understand.

1. Am I correct in thinking the more sample locations used the higher the resolution?
   1. is there a tool in ArcGIS to create Sample locations to download onto a handheld GPS for fieldwork?
2. I plan to drape these results over a TIN/DEM (is this the best way?)
   1. Do I need to create a different excel sheet for each depth and then use kriging tool for them and stack them draped of TIN/DEM ?
3. Any advice for doing this with mixed microbe populations would be greatly welcomed.
