Change GlobalID type for spatial join with arcpy

I'm doing a spatial join and the target feature has a globalID.  Running the tool regularly doesn't preserve the globalID in the output.  I've found if I change the field type of the GlobalID to "Guid" it will output them in the new feature class.  I would like to know how this is done with arcpy.  

Below are the settings for the spatial join tool showing the GlobalID type being changed to Guid imder the properties menu.
