Default Legend for SDE feature classes

Is there a way to set a default legend for feature classes in an SDE Geodatabase? I know I can create layer files for each item but that seems like a whole other area I would have to maintain. It would be great if folks could pull a feature class off the SQL server into an ArcMap and it had a default much like when you bring in a Parcel Fabric into an ArcMap document.
