DBF tables and SDE feature classes Attribute Assistant

I have a mxd that contains SDE feature classes and a DBF table. I am using the attribute assistant to populate some of the fields on the feature classes. These fields need to be populated from the dbf table to the feature class. I try Expression and Link_Table_Asset for the value method but no luck at all. Anyone had this issue.
