"Update Diagram" GP Tool does not add new features

Question

I created a network diagram from a Trace Network.  Then tried to apply updates made to trace network features to the network diagram.   While attribute updates are applied and show up on the network diagram elements, newly added features do not.  I'm probably missing something.

Here is my workflow.

1.   Network diagram fragment.

2.  Add new features to source Trace Network (shown as selected)

3.  Run the "Update Diagram" GP tool from the map.

There is no change to the network diagram.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The result you expect depends on the diagram rules set up on the related diagram template. In your case, I'm pretty sure this is the Update Diagram expected behavior. This operation starts processing from the only network elements it knows as initial input; that is, the network elements you initially used/selected to create the diagram. There is no way for the diagram builder to consider the network features you add later as initial input. However, if rules such as Trace, Spatial Query, and Expand Container rules exist on the related diagram template, these newly added network features can be queried during the update build process and appended to the diagram. In your case, you should strongly consider creating a custom template based on these diagram rules so that resulting diagrams always reflect the true state of network after update, as you intend.

Thanks much for the reply.

Right.  I should have mentioned that after creating the features I saved the edits *and* validated the topology.  No difference in results.

I also tried the "Apply To Diagrams" tool on the "Trace Network" toolbar.   Also no luck.
