In the last week, the buttons on our Map tour have stopped showing the button label and are a blank rectangle. Nothing changed on our end. Is anyone else experiencing this issue since the last StoryMaps update?
@DallinBergquist - This issue was addressed in an update last week. Please let us know if you are still seeing the issue.
@DallinBergquist -- We're aware of this issue with buttons and plan to deploy a fix in an upcoming release later this month. I apologize that your story is being affected by this.
@Sarahjoy94 - I'm sorry you are having an issue with the buttons in your story. There are no restrictions on student accounts that would cause this to happen, and this sounds like a different issue than the one reported above.
The behavior you describe is what happens when there is no URL saved for the button. If you hover over the button and the "Open in a new tab" tool is disabled that means there is no URL saved (see screenshot). After you click the Edit/pencil icon and paste in the URL, make sure you press ENTER to save the pasted URL. Let us know if that works for you.
I have experiencing the same issue within my Storymap that I started making in April 2026. I copy the URL into edit (the pencil on the toolbar) and click paste. I then publish my storymap, look at the preview, and test the button that I just added a URL too. I click the button and it opens another tab on my browser to display my storymap, not the URL that I copy and pasted. Could this happen because of some sharing setting or maybe there are some restrictions on my ESRI student account?
@TrinityMorris -- The behavior you've described means there is no URL configured for the button.
After you type your button label text, make sure you click Edit (pencil icon on the toolbar) to add the URL you want your button to go to. If the Open in a new tab button is disabled (the second one on the toolbar, as shown below), that means there is no URL configured for the button. Once you add the URL that button will enable and your button should link to the site as expected.
The text shown on the button is just a label, so even if you paste a URL in for this visible text, you still have to configure a URL for the button by clicking Edit.
Hello, I am currently working on a Story Map that I have been developing since Aug. 2023. I recently have tried to add a button to a sidecar portion of the story map but the link keeps referring back to the original storymap link rather than the youtube or vimeo links ive placed. I've checked with copilot to make sure I'm doing everything correctly and it still keep referring me back to the storymap link. Is there anything else I can do?
The Label is still there, but it is drawing in the same colour as the button. What colours were the Button and the Label before ? What Theme are you using, or did you Create your own ?
It does. Here is the link to a version of the StoryMap if you'd like to take a look. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9c6866ad006642b6aab15b28d95b97b5
If you right click on the button and select Inspect, does the inspector show your label "More Information" ?
Yes it is. The button still appears and even works, but there is no label. It is just a rectangle as shown in the screenshot. Not very user friendly.
Hello @DallinBergquist , are you sure that the URL stored in your "Project_Website" attribute for this feature is still valid ? Apparently, places without a valid link will not have a button.
