If I export the same feature class to my local PC and run the same calculation there, it takes less than 30 seconds. Surely this can't be the expected behavior for ESRI's chosen versioning architecture going forward?
This is not enough information for me to reproduce the issue. On my utility networks, Calculate Field operations on 10,000+ assets completes in a matter of seconds.
Since edits to branch versioned datasets happen over network, a one hour hang time suggests serious I/O or networking issues. Do you have a proxy that could be bottlenecking the process?
