Unable to Register Customdata Provider 11.5

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone has come across this scenario before when trying to register new Customdata Providers.

I loaded my CDPK file to ArcGIS Server admin directory, now I'm trying to register my Customdata provider and I'm being blocked by this error:

Unable to rename old path 'C:\Users\arcgis\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxxxx3104529350312973065149899762102600' to new path 'D:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\customdata\providers\xyzxyz'.

I confirmed that our ArcGIS Server service account has full control over the providers folder here: Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\customdata\providers. This error started after our upgrade from 11.1 to 11.5. I also get this same error when trying to register through ArcGIS Server Manager. I've tried this with a few different CDPK files and rebuilt a few Customdata Providers for 11.5 but no luck so far.

Have you checked the "Path on server" that your uploaded item has?

Were you able to do this on the 11.1 deployment prior to upgrade?

Hi @GlenterpriseUK Yes I can, utilizing the same Item ID shown on that screen when trying to register. Also yes, no issues when performing this on 11.1.

I was actually asking about your "Path on server" for the CDPK that you have uploaded is it on 'C:\arcgisserver\directories\xyz or is the path' showing 'C:\Users\arcgis\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxxxx3104529350312973065149899762102600'

Have you checked the SDK documentation for this https://developers.arcgis.com/enterprise-sdk/guide/custom-data-feeds/build-a-custom-data-package-file/#:~:text=Be%20aware%20that%20hosts%20and%20id%20are%20deprecated%20in%20ArcGIS%20Enterprise%2011.5.%20serviceParameters%20should%20be%20used%20instead.%20Refer%20to%20the%20Creating%20your%20own%20service%20parameters%20subtopic%20for%20more%20information.

Be aware that hosts and id are deprecated in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5. serviceParameters should be used instead.

I understand sorry, my path on server is: \arcgisserver\directories\arcgissystem\arcgisuploads\admin\xyzxyzx, similar to your screenshot.

I see your other message and yes, now I am utilizing Service Parameters instead of Host and ID.

The other thing that I'm noticing now is that, although it's giving the same message about unable to rename folder, it does show the item as a Registered Customdata Provider when I refresh the browser. However, at this location, the providers folder is still empty: \Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\customdata\providers

Is there any further explanation on how to resolve this issue? I'm trying to deploy one of the github examples to a 11.5 server and I'm running into the folder path renaming error.

@AJohnson_HFHI I am hitting this issue on two separate ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 instances using custom data feed built for 11.3 but is working within the 11.3 environment.

I did try to place the required files in the target directory but I then hit other issues that I cannot yet prove are not caused by this issue. I would suggest that you raise a support case with Esri.

Still working with Support on this but it appears that it may be due to us not having ArcGIS Server installed on the C drive on our server. Testing has showed that if ArcGIS Server is not installed on the C drive (including content store) then this error is reproducible. In our deployment, we installed everything on a separate disk (D drive).

@AJohnson_HFHI thanks that confirms my testing from last week as well. I spun a test machine and used Enterprise Builder to install with all of the default paths (C:\Program Files\ArcGIS) and the custom data feed deployed and moved the files to the correct location. The other environments I tested on were all installed in \ArcGIS\ and all failed the deployment of the same provider.

I’m encountering exactly the same issue. ArcGIS Server version 11.5 is installed on the D drive.
Do you have any updates on this bug or a workaround?

Hi @ErwanCaradec I just checked and no changes other than it is listed as 'In Product Plan': BUG-000179482 for ArcGIS GIS Server. I looked at the issues addressed list for enterprise 12.0 and I don't see anything in there about this particular bug: 120-issuesaddressedlist_11192025.pdf, but I'm unaware if this bug exists currently in 12.0.

Hi @AJohnson_HFHI and @ErwanCaradec I haven't tested on 12.0 yet but the runtime is now installed as part of ArcGIS Server and has potentially been fixed as a result.

For a work around I have had some success in running through the registration process, triggering the bug and then copying the required files into the directory custom data feeds expect them to be, but more testing is required on this.

Alternatively, and not ideal is a reinstall of the ArcGIS Server in the default C:\Program Files\ArcGIS. This is not always feasible. This was the option we implemented as we had a clean system being used for a POC.

Hi, @DaveBarrett1034 @AJohnson_HFHI this workaround works for our environment; there is no need to reinstall ArcGIS Server on C drive ! Thanks to French & US Esri Support.

Open ArcGIS Server Manager
Go to Site > Custom Data Feeds > Add Custom Data Provider. "This will trigger the bug about not being able to copy from a temp location to the install directory. It is important to do this step as it ensures the provider is registered with ArcGIS Server"
Log onto the machine where ArcGIS Server is installed
On that machine change the <provider name>.cdpk to <provider name>.zip
Extract that to a directory called <provider name>
Copy this folder to the following directory "<install-dir>\Server\framework\runtime\customdata\providers"
Important : Restart "ArcGIS Server" service (because Node.js need to be restarted before publishing service)
Then continue to test and deploy feature services from your provider.
