Map tab missing

Hello, I noticed that the Map tab described in the Introduction to ArcGIS for Excel—ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 | Documentation is missing from my Excel.

I am using Microsoft Excel 365 Desktop version. The ArcGIS tab is visible and so is the map panel, but not the Map tab.

The issue I have run across is one of my sheets that is connected to a layer has disconnected and when I try to re-attach the layer I get a warning about the sheet already being connected or I just have to create a new sheet.

I do have an annoying workaround as this has happened multiple times. I need to create the new sheet, do a Find and Replace on all references to it in the workbook, then delete the old one and rename the new one.

Good morning @WMANDD, thank you for posting your inquiry!

So 2 topics here to chat about. Lets address the first, the map data tab. The Map Data will appear/disappear as applicable to data manipulation. For example, upon opening a map you will not see it but if you click on a row you will see it appear. See demo below -

What do you mean by disconnected? I assume you shared the excel sheet/map to an ArcGIS Online account, if so than you should be able to open the Excel workbook that has the attribute table and the map associated with it. If any data is updated in the Excel sheet, you can sync your changes.

If you do not see data in the map than you can add the feature layer from your AGOL account ( Add layer > add from AGOL). You could also copy/paste the Excel data using Paste with values (as a workaround). See screenshot below -

I am sorry to hear that! From your description, I feel as if something maybe corrupt at this point, that is just my guess. Are you able to DM me and share your worksheet? If not can you use Fiddler or Dev tools (although I think you are using DT) to capture what maybe going on behind the scenes?

So today after the weekend I opened the spreadsheet and wanted to do some refreshing of new data.

The "Disconnect" I referred to earlier happened and unfortunately I can't figure out how to reconnect the data without doing my workaround.

To clarify, when I opened the Spreadsheet on Desktop the Arcgis extension is on, but the map has been reset and no data is showing. I attempt to logout/login and nothing changes.
I then turn on the layer I previously connected to the spreadsheet, it shows the data but I cannot sync new changes.
I attempt to add the layer again with the + button, but it puts it into a new sheet with a "(1)" at the end.

Clicking on data in the previously connected sheet does not bring up the "MAP" tab like it was doing when I replied before so I do not have any option to "Sync With ArcGIS"

Thank you for pointing out that the Map Data only appears when clicking on a cell that has the Map data. That is easy.

As for problem 2: Let me see if I can explain it better. Currently I am syncing data from a map to the Excel. Sometimes when I open the spreadsheet the "Add attribute table to excel" button has been unchecked

and I cannot sync new changes to the Excel drawing. Most of the time that button stays green and I get "Sync updates" as normal.

Maybe I was missing something on how to fix that, but if I attempt to add that layer that has the button unchecked, I get the error, and need to do the workaround. Though with the Map Data tab I notice there is a "Sync With ArcGIS" button and that might've fixed the problem.
