Dates showing null

Hello,

I am importing a .csv file to display point data, and am trying to classify the points using unique values based off of the date fields. However, the attribute table shows the date's coming in as <null> values. 

I am wondering if this is an issue with how the dates are formatted in Excel. If so, what is the best format to use to get those to show up correctly in ArcPro?

I would like to keep the string showing as mmddyyyy ideally, but would be fine with showing just the year drilled as well.

Would this be a formatting thing in Excel, or would I need to use the Arcade function in Arc to correct this?

I am trying to attach screenshots, but having trouble locating the function on the help page here...

To start with the easy, obvious question: What is the data type of the field that's supposed to be holding the date?  Is it actually DATE, or is it a TEXT field, or something else?

The next question would be how the dates are formatted in the underlying Excel document.  Excel can be tricky, since it converts everything to display as text on the fly, and inconsistencies can sneak through.  Try selecting that column, and changing the Numbering type to "General", and make sure all of your dates change to 5-digit serial numbers.  If some don't, those cells have formatting issues that could be causing you problems.
