Updated to latest version and now I cannot open attribute table for a shapefile after joining a Zonal Statistic as Table output. I get the "Failed to open table. An invalid SQL statement was used" error. I can use the same shapefile and table in an older version and it works fine. Table and shapefile are stored locally.
Use Copy Features to make a copy of the shapefile into a locally stored geodatabase featureclass. Try the join then. If it works it may be a recent bug
Another thing to examine is see if any of the field names have a space in them. This will throw this type of error too.
I had this same error and figured out that it was because my shapefiles had names that started with numbers. I renamed them (e.g. from 5kmPoly to Poly5km) and it worked.
