create a time enabled feature layer from sedf

I am trying to create a time enabled feature layer on AGOL using the ArcGIS api for python. I have been able to create the sedf with the date field in yyyy-mm-dd format. I am able to create the feature layer in AGOL. However I do not have the ability to enable time on this layer and use it with time sliders etc. Do you know how to enable time on a sedf before creating the feature layer or after the layer is created? If you are not sure do you know who might know?
