Displaying statistics in report

I was unable to display statistics. I was looking at the concepts from this wiki page and tried creating a report. But it does not render the statistics. I would like to place the statistics in Report Group Header. I tried adding it to Report Group Footer and Report Footer also, but that never gets displayed. Any ideas on how to display the statistics in Report ?
