Hi Dan -- what story map app are you using? https://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/app-list/
If Journal, Series, or Cascade, you can make an app with one of the other configurable apps like Web AppBuilder or Basic Viewer that have a directions widget. If you are looking to add directions to one of the other apps that can only be done by downloading the code and customizing the app to add that yourself.
